Access Privilege
The Smiths at home Watchkeepers going on duty have Ivor and Audrey Smith and other residents at Prawle Point to thank for convenient access to the path leading to the lookout. Ivor and Audrey have owned The Station Officer's House since 1980; they also own the right of way in front of the cottages and the steps leading down into the field. When the Coastguard was operating, there was always a gentleman's agreement that they could use this way to the lookout. Once the Coastguard gave up visual watch at Prawle Point, the lookout remained empty until NCI re-opened it in 1998. The arrangement for watchkeepers to reinstate the facility was discussed with Ivor and Audrey Smith who agreed to continue as before. We are indebted to them for this privilege and also for keeping the steps in good order and regularly trimming the fuchsia hedge. We try to cause as little inconvenience as possible to all the residents and, at busy times when visitors are around, we will try not to exacerbate the parking problem. Jan 1011 |
